PRIVATE RESIDENCE III

PRIVATE RESIDENCE II

TEXT FROM MAP DEVELOPMENT:

Braced by a knifing limestone wall and inclined steel post and beam frame, this monument stands to the sun like a temple on a large view, small space site. A twelve foot high sliding glass wall breathes in the ocean below. Translucent light elements feed light through the suspended steel stair to the lower living areas. Exposed concrete and a minimal material palette create an organic aesthetic.

PRIVATE RESIDENCE I

TEXT FROM MAP DEVELOPMENT: Ancient Vastu form and function design characteristics create a meditative feeling within. Two architectural boxes connected by a steel bridge. One glass box which emerges from a Turkish limestone structure, houses the living area. The other planted solidly into the earth, showcases a private entertaining deck above. Frameless glazing opens the loft style spaces completely to the panoramic ocean views. Fire elements create dramatic shadowing outside and translucent panels shower the inside with ambient light. Modern technology and innovative design elements allow electronically enclosed rooms to be completely exposed to the elements at just the right time of day. Walnut, brown oak, and bronze materials connect w/ our souls. A forty foot steel trellis pierces the building, perfect for in/out vegetation.

WELCOME 2010

2010 is here! It’s such an exciting year for the many reasons it should be exciting! In history, 2010 always seemed a futuristic year as depicted in ‘2010: Odyssey Two’ by Arthur C. Clarke.
The idea motivating this post is born out of the ideals that fuse the current conditions in this day and age. It’s no longer a movie, the future is present: economic crisis, environmental conditions, world leaders trying to solve many global issues. So the question becomes a little more serious and critical beyond the day to day design trends. We take a closer look at value in the attempt to help better define good design in modern terms. There is little room for the exclusive design that once served few and did not consider the whole. Where something is made matters just as much as the pleasure it is to hold it in your hand. The life an object should live beyond it’s temporal use with a cycle in mind.
There are too many things in production which do not meet any standards sensitive to any issues which must be stopped. Usage plays a large role in driving the consuming patterns. Many of these issues are fed by design and a silence must take over in order for the heart to speak. We listen to the so loudly broadcasted messages with taking a time to actually consider our inventory of goods. The energy in “stuff” gets displaced by new “stuff”. Design has changed the world and in order to save it, core beliefs about design must be established. It’s a time for regrouping and refinement.

With all this said, a beautiful thing must still embody the emotional drive in order for it to succeed as a necessary item. Let the games begin! Come back soon.
